After spent time thinking the best option, my conclusion is that there
are lots of good books to pick, but I decided choose those three because they are
interesting for teaching to the children and they are also funny and they allow them to have a great time while
they are reading them.
The three books selected are:
- “ The day the crayons quit”
This book written by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers tells
us the untypical story of a full set of crayons who decided to disappear because
they are tired of doing always the same jobs.
I picked this book because I find quite easy to practice with it all the
colours. Although the grammar is a little bit complicate for 3-4 years old
children, it will be fantastic for a 5-6 years old class.
One of the principal ideas from this lovely book is “be original”, try
to do different things, improve your imagination and be creative. If the sky is
usually blue, you don’t have to paint it blue, because sometimes can be orange
or even purple. That´s why I`ve choose this book, to encourage children to be
creative and original and work these ideas with them.
-“The Selfish crocodile” by Faustin Charles and Michael Terry.
This story is about a huge
crocodile living in the forest that doesn’t let anyone enjoys the river, all
the animals are afraid of him. But one
day the crocodile feels something is going wrong in his mouth, and of course
any animal help him. But, suddenly, a little mouse jumps into his big mouth and
get off an enormous bad tooth. The crocodile is so grateful for it, and they
become the best friends.
I really like this story; it tells how selfish people need help in some
moments of their lives. So the way to work with this book is easy, just explain
to the children that they have to be generous and nice with everybody, and don’t
judge anyone because they never know when they would need a hand from other
person.
To reinforce the principal idea, could be interesting if the teacher
prepares some games in relation with the ideas of take care of the people, making easy to the children to keep the idea
on mind.
-“Monkey Puzzle” by Julia Donaldson
In one of my book selections cannot be missed one from the writer Julia Donaldson.
In this case I’ve choose Monkey Puzzle.
This story, tell us about a little monkey who gets lost from his mum. With the help of a friendly butterfly, the little monkey looks for her in the jungle. Together they ask all the animals, until they
finally find mum’s monkey.
Mostly of the books from Julia Donaldson have a particular thing, the
rhyme, all the phrases are connected between them. That´s is absolutely
impressive because the children can learn phonetics easily, and practise the proper
pronunciation with the teacher.
This book can also be so handy for reviewing all the animals and they
appearance. One way to work with is through phonetics and sounds as I said
before and some culture about animals.
